Child abuse and neglect is Australia's greatest social problem, and it happens because people live behind closed doors, and because no one wants to get involved. Child friendly communities will help change this, because in child friendly communities kids will be seen and heard. In child friendly communities, families won't live in isolation and unsupported. In child friendly communities, everyone will accept that the safety and wellbeing of kids is everyone's responsibility. For child friendly communities to be a reality, we need to engage the whole Australian community to get involved, and help make a positive difference to children's lives (Napcan 2007).
Due to popular demand Tweed Shire Women’s Service in conjunction with Majella House will be running another Teddy’s Picnic as part of Child Protection Week.
