History of Wonders of Women
The Wonders of Women (WOW) strategy was launched in 2008 as part of a strategy developed by Tweed Shire Women’s Service to enhance the profile and achievements of women in our community. The strategy included the launch of the WOW Annual Outstanding Achievement Awards, a WOW Art Show and a WOW Annual Calendar featuring outstanding women in our community. Within the inaugural year of the WOW Outstanding Achievement Awards we were astonished to learn of the women who were contributing incredible amounts of time, resources and “woman-power” within our community. Each year, we continue to be inspired by the incredible contributions women make to the safety and wellbeing of our community.
Purpose of Outstanding Achievement Awards:
The primary purpose of the WOW Outstanding Achievement Awards is to identify and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of women who demonstrate courage, passion, enthusiasm and generosity in a range of sectors in our community.
Who can be nominated?
- A nominee must provide service, support and leadership to women living in the Tweed Shire
- A nominee will demonstrate sustained passion and commitment to women through outstanding achievement, leadership and representation of women and women’s issues
- A nominee must provide consent to the nominator to be nominated
How do I make a nomination?
- The annual nominations open on the third week of September of each year and close in the second week of February, with the presentations coinciding with International Women’s Day hosted in the first or second week of March.
- Nomination forms are available through the office at Tweed Shire Women’s Service or on the website at www.tswomen.org.au
- Completed nomination forms can be posted to Tweed Shire Women’s Service at PO Box 407, Murwillumbah 2484, NSW or emailed to manager@tswomen.org.au

Judging Panel
The judging panel consists of a skilled and experienced community panel, with a broad range of knowledge in community processes. This panel will review all nominations in line with the judging criteria. The judges review and assess the information provided by the nominator. The panel select three finalists within each category. The finalists are then forwarded to an independent judge in the specified category. For example, the Regional Manager in a Disability Service (capital) may assess the category of Health & Disability. The independent judge will then select a category winner. The full list of nominees is then posted on the Tweed Shire Women’s Service website for a period of 14 days for community feedback. All decisions made by the judging panel and the independent judges are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Award Ceremony
The official presentation of awards to nominees and category winners coincides with International Women’s Day. The presentation ceremony is conducted at a themed event.
