Tweed Shire Women's Refuge and External Supported Refuge Accommodation is committed to the empowerment of women and offers women and children in crisis as a result of domestic violence a safe and supportive environment where they can consider their options and make informed choices.

External Supported Refuge Accommodation provides medium term accommodation in furnished houses within the Tweed region for women and children escaping domestic violence. External Supported Refuge Accommodation is provided for women who have been residing in refuge accommodation either within our service or another.

The external supported refuge accommodation provides:

  • Safe accommodation

  • Referrals to legal services, Social Security, counselling, housing and other services

  • Support and information

  • Support during police and court proceedings

  • Information on domestic violence including the “cycle of violence”; and

  • Information regarding recovery of property

Support workers assist the women and children within the houses with all matters affecting them. Support workers will consult with mothers whilst offering understanding, security, trust and support to the children.

Whilst we try to make the supported accommodation feel as much like a home as possible there are guidelines which need to be followed to ensure the accommodation remains a place of safety.

Referrals for the external supported refuge accommodation can be made to 02 6672 4188.
